10 More Things I Regret Buying
About this video
McGoff discusses ten non-clothing purchases he regrets, including unread books, expensive cologne without sampling, cheap camera gear, insufficient device storage, travel gimmicks, budget airlines, overpriced steakhouse meals, a condo investment, undersized beds, and ineffective supplements. He argues that in many categories, spending more upfront on quality items or avoiding impulsive purchases based on trends leads to better long-term satisfaction.
Key takeaways
- McGoff recommends sampling fragrances before committing to full-size bottles, as high-quality cologne is expensive and often goes unused
- McGoff argues that investing in better camera gear, lenses, microphones, and lighting pays dividends for serious hobbyists or professionals, rather than buying cheap equipment twice
- McGoff suggests buying larger storage capacity upfront for laptops and SD cards to avoid future frustration and regret
- McGoff contends that buying based on budget alone—such as cheap plane tickets or undersized beds—often leads to regret, and paying more for comfort and quality is worthwhile
- McGoff cautions against purchasing items based on trends or hype, such as supplements and self-optimization products, noting that true shortcuts do not exist
