Carrying Appendix In Shorts Can Go Wrong Fast

About this video

Colion discusses the practical challenges and safety considerations of appendix carrying a concealed firearm while wearing athletic shorts or joggers in hot weather. He demonstrates his own approach using basketball shorts and a drawstring waistband, breaking down the key differences between this setup and traditional belt carry. Colion emphasizes the unique risks of appendix carry in shorts—particularly drawstring entanglement in the trigger guard—and offers his recommendations for holster selection, retention adjustment, and safe drawing and reholstering techniques.

Key takeaways

• Colion warns that drawstrings can pose a serious negligent discharge risk if they enter the trigger guard during reholstering, potentially causing catastrophic injury to the femoral artery or genitals
• According to Colion, carrying in shorts relies on friction and the holster clip snagging the drawstring rather than a stable belt, so he recommends testing your specific shorts-and-holster combination extensively while unloaded
• Colion suggests using a holster with adjustable retention, ideally with a wing for better concealment and a second snag point, and always using your support hand to stabilize the holster during reholstering
