Finally An AR-15 Dry Fire Laser System I Actually Enjoy Training With

About this video

Colion reviews the Mantis Blackbeard dry-fire training system for AR-15s, which he describes as a device that replaces the bolt carrier group and uses a special magazine to enable automatic trigger reset and laser feedback during dry-fire practice. He explains that while dry-fire training is essential for shooter development, it’s typically boring, and argues this product makes the process more engaging and effective. Colion shares his hands-on experience with both the hardware and the companion app, noting strengths like realistic trigger feel and practical home-defense scenario training, while critiquing the app’s finicky target recognition and paywalled drill content.

Key takeaways

• Colion teaches that dry-fire practice is crucial for improving shooting skills but is normally tedious and boring without tools to enhance the experience
• According to Colion, the Blackbeard system’s automatic trigger reset and laser feedback allow shooters to practice realistic scenarios (like room clearing and home defense) while identifying bad habits in trigger manipulation and movement
• Colion notes the system helped him better understand height-over-bore issues at various distances, which he says is harder to learn during live fire
• Colion criticizes the companion app for being inconsistent with target recognition and locking some drills behind a paywall, though he acknowledges the overall system offers good value for those without regular range access
