FN 509 LS Edge - The Ultimate Self-Defense Gun?

About this video

Colion reviews the FN 509 LS Edge, a full-size defensive handgun with a 5-inch barrel. He breaks down how FN engineered the pistol to overcome the typical problems of long-slide handguns—slow slide return and excessive flip—through lightening cuts, aggressive grip texture, and a 90-degree flat trigger. Colion also highlights the gun’s accuracy, optics-ready system, and premium finish, concluding that FN succeeded in creating a highly refined defensive firearm.

Key takeaways

• Colion explains that FN added slide lightening cuts and reduced rear weight to make the 5-inch slide track faster and return to battery quicker than typical long-slide pistols
• He emphasizes the importance of aggressive grip texture for control, praising the LS Edge’s unusually grippy surface even with lotion-covered hands
• Colion describes the flat-faced trigger with a 90-degree break as subjective but well-executed, noting it improves shootability without being polarizing
