Is It Racist… Or Just Real? One Cop’s Brutally Honest Take

About this video

Colion hosts Ryan Tilman, a police officer, Breaking Barriers founder, and California gubernatorial candidate. Tilman shares his journey from reluctant law enforcement recruit to bridge-builder between communities and police, explaining how his decade of crisis negotiation, public speaking, and social media education has prepared him for governance. He outlines his campaign priorities—economic recovery, public safety, parental control of education, wildfire prevention, and a ‘family first’ initiative incentivizing nuclear families—while discussing civilian-police interactions during traffic stops and the importance of tone, communication, and mutual understanding.

Key takeaways

• Tilman argues that his experience bridging divides between law enforcement and communities through education and dialogue uniquely positions him as a political leader focused on common-sense solutions rather than partisan division
• Colion and Tilman discuss best practices for armed civilians during traffic stops: clear communication, hands visible, informing officers of firearms and their location, and maintaining calm tone to de-escalate and build mutual trust
• Tilman proposes a family stability initiative that would offer tax incentives to married couples who stay together for benchmarks (5, 10, 15 years), arguing that stable two-parent homes reduce youth incarceration and increase societal contribution
