NOIR | Ep. 19: “The Tortoise and the Hare”
About this video
Colion discusses the media’s portrayal of firearms as “high-powered” and argues that this terminology is misleading and plays on public ignorance. He explains his view that defensive firearms should be effective, not “underpowered,” and demonstrates this principle by visiting competitive shooter Rob Pincus to explore both athletic shooting drills and vehicle-based self-defense scenarios. Colion and co-host Lort compete in timed shooting courses while Colion learns from Rob’s instruction on drawing and firing from inside a vehicle.
Key takeaways
- Colion argues that media descriptions of AR-15s as “high-powered” are inaccurate, noting that many states consider the caliber too low-powered for deer hunting, and that this language is designed to make firearms sound scarier to the uninformed public
- According to Colion, effective defensive firearms should be powerful enough to stop a threat, and focusing on a gun being “powerful” as inherently negative misses the point of self-defense preparedness
- Colion demonstrates that dynamic shooting training—such as running between shooting positions or drawing from a seated position in a vehicle—builds familiarity and adaptability with firearms that static range practice cannot replicate
