Taking An Anti-Gun New Yorker & Brit Shooting For The First Time

About this video

Colion documents his experience taking two women—Beverly, a New Yorker who identifies as anti-gun, and Crystal, a UK native living in Texas who is neutral on guns—to the shooting range for their first (or second) time shooting. He describes his instructional approach, starting them with a suppressed .22 caliber handgun to minimize intimidation, and contrasts Beverly’s fear and struggle with Crystal’s composure and natural aptitude. Colion argues that direct experience shooting firearms provides important perspective for people engaged in the gun debate.

Key takeaways

• Colion believes hands-on shooting experience is crucial for informed conversation about guns, especially for those who hold anti-gun views without ever having handled a firearm
• Colion teaches that starting nervous or fearful beginners with low-recoil, suppressed firearms (like a .22 handgun) helps prevent overwhelming anxiety and creates a more positive first experience
• Colion observes that handgun shooting requires more precision and mechanics (grip, sight alignment, trigger control) than rifle shooting, making it harder for beginners despite the smaller size
