The Truth About Bulletproof Helmets - Colion Noir Podcast #19

About this video

Colion interviews helmet manufacturer Ali Tadayon about his innovative ballistic face shield system. Colion explores Ali’s design philosophy, which combines full-face ballistic protection with features like replaceable cheek plates for weapon cheek-weld, integrated ventilation and defogging fans, and modular ballistic panels. Ali explains his motivation stemmed from airsoft CQB frustrations and argues traditional one-piece helmets cause severe traumatic brain injury due to poor backface deformation performance and chronic neck strain from poor weight distribution.

Key takeaways

• Colion learns Ali’s helmet uses replaceable ballistic panels (Level IIIA to Level III) in a modular design, similar to a plate carrier, allowing users to swap protection levels and maintain cheek-weld capability
• Ali argues to Colion that traditional one-piece ballistic helmets create severe backface deformation (up to 24.5mm per NIJ standards) compared to his system’s 11.59mm, potentially reducing traumatic brain injury risk
• Colion hears Ali’s view that neck injuries from prolonged helmet wear are underaddressed in the industry, and his jaw-mounted design acts like a skull-crusher to balance night vision weight rather than relying on neck muscles and counterweights
