When Is An AR-15 Not “Just” An AR-15?

About this video

Colion reviews the Sons of Liberty Gunworks Mark1 AR-15, emphasizing that while it may not look revolutionary, he argues it distinguishes itself through numerous subtle refinements. He describes his hands-on experience with the rifle’s texture, tight tolerances, recoil management, trigger quality, and overall feel. Colion positions this AR-15 as a premium option for enthusiasts who can appreciate incremental improvements in build quality and shooting experience over budget alternatives.

Key takeaways

• Colion teaches that high-end AR-15s differentiate themselves through subtle details rather than revolutionary features—tight fitment, textured rails, clean triggers, and smooth recoil characteristics add up to a superior shooting experience.
• According to Colion, tight tolerances between upper and lower receivers improve the feel and reduce flex under recoil, making the rifle feel more solid and enjoyable to shoot even if looser tolerances don’t affect reliability.
• Colion explains that a clean, smooth two-stage trigger with short reset is critical to AR performance, and he praises this rifle’s trigger for being both smooth and crisp out of the box.
