Why Texas Won’t Let Trained Veterans Carry Rifles To Protect Schools

About this video

Colion discusses school and church security with founders of the Allegiance Project Foundation, a nonprofit that hires military veterans (especially special operations personnel) to protect schools. Colion and his guests break down what they describe as the tactical and training failures during the reported Uvalde incident, explain why they believe veterans with combat CQB experience are better prepared for active shooter response than typical security guards, and describe the legal restrictions Texas places on armed security officers (such as prohibitions on carrying rifles). Colion’s guests also share their perspective on mindset, training, and the importance of being proficient with defensive tools.

Key takeaways

• Colion’s guests argue that many security officers and law enforcement lack the CQB training and combat mindset necessary to immediately confront an active shooter, citing what they describe as hesitation at the threshold during the reported Uvalde response.
• According to Colion’s guests, Texas law prohibits non-peace-officer security personnel from carrying rifles on duty, which they believe limits effectiveness since rifles are more accurate and reduce the risk of hitting bystanders compared to handguns.
• Colion and his guests emphasize that anyone carrying a firearm for protection must train extensively and adopt a professional mindset, understanding that in a real defensive scenario there are no do-overs and every shot carries legal and moral responsibility.
