3 Tips for Making Money Self Publishing on Amazon KDP

About this video

Dale Roberts shares three practical tips for making money self-publishing on Amazon KDP. First, it is not always about book sales: publish in eBook, print, and audiobook formats, then expand beyond books into affiliate marketing programs (promoting products aligned with your readership through your publications, social media, and email newsletter), course sales on platforms he names such as Thinkific, Teachable, Kajabi, and Gumroad, higher-priced coaching and consulting for people who want to learn directly from you, and brand deals and sponsorships. Second, he says you have to spend money to make money — it is a pay-to-play world and investing improves your odds of a breakout — but if you are cash-strapped, be frugal and resourceful, using options like StoryOrigin for newsletter swaps and group promotions with authors in your niche. Third, be flexible: no advice is one-size-fits-all, so study successful authors he names such as Mark Dawson, Joanna Penn, and Bryan Cohen, stay consistent, track results, do more of what works, and stop doing what does not. The video is sponsored by Fiverr, which he promotes for services from ghostwriting and editing to cover design and marketing.

Key takeaways

• Diversify formats: publish eBooks, print books, and audiobooks rather than relying on one format
• Add income beyond book sales: affiliate programs, courses, coaching/consulting, and brand sponsorships
• Investing money improves your odds in self-publishing, but cash-strapped authors can use free tactics like StoryOrigin newsletter swaps and group promotions
• No single piece of advice fits everyone — study authors walking the path you want and adapt their methods to your own business
• Track your results consistently: do more of what works and stop doing what does not
