Amazon KDP Exposed: Claims of Fraud (Trustpilot)

About this video

Dale reads and responds to critical Trustpilot reviews of Amazon KDP. On a fraud claim where a reviewer said their card was compromised and they were pressured to pay for extra services or their book would not publish, Dale argues this was likely not KDP itself, because KDP is free to publish through a revenue share, paying authors 35% to 70% on ebooks and about 40% to 60% minus print fees on print, apart from author copies or proofs. On email support, he agrees responses can feel boilerplate and recommends phone or live chat instead. On a complaint from Lorenzo about a 680-page illustrated book with a $91 minimum price, $54.60 printing cost and almost no royalties, Dale points to the KDP pricing calculator, notes color printing drives costs up sharply by page count, and suggests offset printing for 100 or more copies if cheaper unit costs are needed. He also explains the adult dungeon for erotica as reduced discoverability rather than a ban, and advises professionalism when dealing with rude phone support.

Key takeaways

• If someone charges upfront fees and pressures you to pay to publish, Dale says check who is actually taking the money, as that pattern does not match KDP
• Prefer KDP phone or live chat support over email, which Dale describes as often boilerplate and copy-paste
• Use the KDP pricing calculator before publishing, especially for long color books where per-page print costs make print-on-demand pricing unworkable
• Consider offset printing for larger runs of 100 or more books when print-on-demand margins are too thin
• Being placed in the adult dungeon limits discoverability but is not the same as a book block or account ban or termination
