Is Getting Book Reviews Through This Site Safe?

About this video

Dale tests author review site GetBooksReviewed.com, founded by Debbie Siebert, using Book Rescue guest Robert G. Kolp, who lacked reviews and social proof when they met around July 2021, as a case study. Dale cites Amazon’s advertising certification course stating 91% of customers check reviews before buying, and that a product is not considered retail ready until it has at least 15 reviews with an average 3.5-star rating or greater. He explains direct author review swaps are dangerous because Amazon sees a direct connection as bias and can remove the review or the reviewer’s posting privileges. Get Books Reviewed is a membership site where authors submit books into a genre-separated library and read and review each other’s books, but its algorithm prevents reciprocal swaps: if you check out and review someone’s book, that author no longer sees any of your books in the library. Members are paying for membership, not for reviews. Robert reported about nine reviews in his first 90 days and praised the detailed, positive reviews he received. Dale says the site costs about $10 to $15 per month after a 10-day free trial, and concludes that if an author can afford it and needs reviews, it is worth it.

Key takeaways

• Cited Amazon standard: retail ready means at least 15 reviews averaging 3.5 stars or more
• Direct author review swaps risk Amazon removing reviews or reviewer posting privileges for perceived bias
• Get Books Reviewed uses an algorithm so reviewers cannot reciprocally swap reviews, even unintentionally
• Case study result: Robert got about nine reviews in his first 90 days
• Cost stated: about $10-$15 per month, with a 10-day free trial
