Kotobee Author Review 2020 | Is Kotobee Worth It?

About this video

Roberts reviews Kotobee Author, disclosing upfront that Kotobee is the exclusive sponsor of his channel but saying he has permission to share candid pros and cons. He describes Kotobee as software for creating interactive ebooks, exporting them in multiple formats, and delivering them securely, serving education, corporate training, and book publishing. Kotobee Author is premium software for PC and Mac, with a limited free version for testing. It imports existing PDF, HTML, Word, and ePub files or lets users create content from scratch, add branding colors and logos, and embed video, audio, questions, and widgets — though he warns not every feature is honored on every platform, for example embedded video in an ePub will not work in mobi files for Kindle Direct Publishing. It integrates with learning management systems, previews content on over 40 device types, exports to more than twelve formats including ePub, mobi, and PDF, can turn a book into an Android and iOS app, and offers controlled user access via codes for direct sales. He praises it as a word processor (saying he plans to transition from Microsoft Word), for robust interiors, and for helpful support. His verdict is strongly positive.

Key takeaways

• Roberts discloses Kotobee is his channel’s exclusive sponsor, but says he was given carte blanche to share candid pros and cons.
• Kotobee Author imports PDF, HTML, Word, and ePub files, previews on over 40 device types, and exports to more than twelve formats including ePub, mobi, and PDF.
• Embedded video, audio, questions, and widgets are available, but Roberts warns they are not honored everywhere — embedded video will not work in mobi files uploaded to Kindle Direct Publishing.
• Roberts says lifetime access costs about $150 with one year of support and updates, followed by an optional maintenance fee of about $60 per year; skipping it does not remove access, you just keep your current version.
• Main cons he names are the overwhelming number of features for some users and that the software is ebook-exclusive rather than built for print books.
