What Kept Her Writing for Decades

About this video

A two-minute lightning-round interview at Author Nation 2025 with Carla King, who says she writes motorcycle adventure travel books ‘for women and the men who love them’ and has been doing so for about 30 years. King says she started writing after winning a poetry contest in second grade, learned speed from being a journalist on deadline, and wishes she had known before publishing that it was a long road. Reader messages thanking her keep her moving, and reader feedback is what excites her most as an author and the action that has moved her progress most. Her best advice acted on was to write more, her worst advice was ‘come on a press trip,’ her one relied-on tool is her MacBook Pro, she sleeps when motivation drops, and she resets creativity by walking in the woods. She describes herself as very persistent, wants readers to feel inspired, says authors overthink every sentence, and says she proved by action that she can write ’the end’ without any more editing. Dale closes by promoting the Author Nation 2025 replay and Author Nation 2026.
