"The Source" Inky Johnson | Serendipity Podcast - Season 2 Episode 4

About this video

Johnson and his co-host Oak discuss their morning routines, the importance of locating one’s ego in every situation, and the difference between being liked versus respected or wanted versus needed. They explore how submission and obedience are foundational lessons for young people, share their philosophy on coaching and teaching as callings rather than jobs, and engage in rapid-fire reflections on stress, Black Lives Matter, and civil rights while emphasizing the value of unsung heroes.

Key takeaways

• Johnson argues that submission comes before obedience—young people must submit to a process or person before they can truly be obedient, preventing ego from blocking growth
• Johnson and Oak both stress the practice of ’locating your ego’ in every moment—acknowledging where your ego sits without necessarily checking it, which Johnson says creates accountability and centers you
• Johnson distinguishes being ‘wanted’ from being ’needed,’ arguing that want reflects choice and freedom while need can stem from desperation or ego, making want more spiritually powerful
• Johnson explains he can work with young people daily because it feeds his spirit and is his calling, not merely a job—he’s done it for free most of his career because the fulfillment sustains him
