How to Record Phone Calls on iPhone (Step-by-Step)

About this video

Kevin explains how to record phone calls on iPhone with iOS 18 and get a transcript. First check the version in Settings > General > About and update if on iOS 17 or older. During a call, tap the new record icon in the top-left corner; an on-screen prompt announces ‘This call will be recorded,’ and in his demo he asks the other party for agreement before continuing. Tap the stop icon to end recording, which triggers a ’no longer being recorded’ announcement. Recordings live in the Notes app under a new Call Recordings category. Opening a call shows a full transcript broken out by speaker; he cautions the quality is only okay and fairly accurate with some errors, giving the example of ‘Kevin Cookie Company’ transcribed as ‘Cabin Cookie Company.’ Tapping any transcript line plays back that portion of audio with live highlighting, the waveform view allows playback from any point, and the three-dot menu offers copy transcript, find in transcript, and delete. He adds that iPhone 15 Pro or better also receives a summary alongside the transcript.

Key takeaways

• Call recording requires iOS 18 or newer — check in Settings > General > About and update from Software Update if needed
• Start recording with the top-left icon during a call; the system announces that the call will be recorded, and the stop icon ends it with a similar announcement
• Recordings and transcripts are stored in the Notes app under Call Recordings, with the transcript separated by speaker
• Transcript accuracy is imperfect per the creator (e.g., ‘Kevin’ misread as ‘Cabin’); tap a line to play that audio segment with highlighting, or use the waveform view
• From the three-dot menu you can copy or search the transcript or delete it; iPhone 15 Pro or better also gets an automatic summary
