How to Run Gemma 4 on Your PC (Free Setup Tutorial)

About this video

Kevin shows Google’s Gemma 4 running directly on his PC for free using LM Studio, which he presents as the easiest setup because it avoids the command line. After installing LM Studio, he searches for Gemma 4, notes that smaller models are faster and larger models are more powerful, and downloads the 4B model as a balance that works well on most PCs. In a new chat he pastes meeting notes and asks the model to extract action items and assign an owner if possible, with think mode turned on for more thorough but slower reasoning. The model returns cleaned-up tasks with suggested owners. He points out chat actions to regenerate, branch, copy, edit, or delete a result, and demonstrates multimodal use by dragging and dropping a photo of a whiteboard into the chat and asking for a summary with key takeaways and action items. He also covers organizing chats into folders, split view for side-by-side comparison, and adding per-chat instructions to control format such as bullet points or tables. Throughout he stresses that Gemma 4 is an open model with no subscriptions, data staying on the machine, and offline use.

• Think mode can be enabled for more detailed reasoning at the cost of slower responses
• A practical text test is pasting meeting notes and prompting to extract action items and assign owners where context allows
• Images can be added by attachment or drag-and-drop, for example summarizing a whiteboard photo into takeaways and action items
• Chats can be organized in folders, compared in split view, and given custom instructions, with results regenerated, branched, copied, edited, or deleted
