How to Transcribe Audio to Text for Free on PC

About this video

Kevin shows how to transcribe audio to text for free on a PC with no subscriptions and no uploads, using an app called Vibe. He describes Vibe as free and open source for Windows, Mac, and Linux, running entirely on the computer and powered behind the scenes by OpenAI’s Whisper, which he calls one of the most accurate transcription AI models. After downloading and installing Vibe, the simple interface offers options to record audio at the top, load a file, or paste a link. He demos transcription by dragging and dropping an audio or video file — the intro to the video itself — noting multiple files can be added at once, then clicking Transcribe at the bottom. The resulting transcript can be copied, saved, or printed, and a dropdown on the right lets you choose the export file format. He suggests uses including captions, meeting notes, interviews, and YouTube videos, and emphasizes unlimited local transcription. In More Options, he highlights three extras: automatic summarization by toggling it on and choosing a platform, speaker detection to separate who said what with multiple speakers, and automatic translation of audio into English. He notes larger files may take longer depending on the computer.
