About this video

Despite its title framing as a course preview, the transcript itself is a cooking segment from ‘Getting Sweet with Sam’ in which the host makes two ice cream desserts. First, a banana split sundae: a banana is split lengthwise and halved, ice cream scoops are placed in a bowl first to stabilize the bananas (using a scoop kept in warm water so ice cream releases easily), bananas are added alongside, and the sundae is finished with whipped cream, chocolate and strawberry syrup drizzle, sprinkles, and a cherry. Second, an ice cream cookie sandwich: a large scoop of ice cream is placed on a jumbo chocolate chip cookie, spread with a knife, and topped with a second cookie pressed down. During the sandwich segment the host shares a brief history note as presented in the video, claiming street vendors in 1899 served ice cream between sheets of paper before adopting cookies, and that photos from the Jersey Shore in 1905 show ice cream sandwiches being sold. The segment closes by asking viewers which dessert they prefer.
