Did The USA Shoot Down Objects from China's Spy Program or hobby balloons?

About this video

Max discusses the U.S. shootdowns of unidentified objects following the Chinese spy balloon incident, questioning whether they were from China’s spy program or potentially hobby balloons. He analyzes President Biden’s comments that the three additional objects shot down were likely not linked to China’s surveillance program and explores the diplomatic reasoning behind the president’s initial silence. Max examines claims that the objects could have been hobby balloons (including one possibly from a Northern Illinois hobbyist club), but presents expert testimony from aerospace professionals who argue that legitimate scientific and weather balloons are carefully tracked, making accidental intrusions unlikely.

Key takeaways

• Max suggests the president may have remained silent to avoid escalating tensions with China and potentially worked through diplomatic channels rather than publicly confronting them about additional objects.
• According to aerospace expert Kevin Tucker cited by Max, legitimate high-altitude scientific and weather balloons are extremely well-tracked and follow strict FAA protocols, making it unlikely the objects were from established research programs.
• Max argues the altitudes where the objects were shot down (20,000-40,000 feet) don’t align well with typical weather balloons (which fly up to 100,000+ feet) but questions whether expensive Sidewinder missiles were an appropriate response if they were merely hobby balloons.
