Fighter Pilot Reacts to China's New Super Aircraft Carrier

About this video

Max analyzes China’s new Fujian aircraft carrier and its recent catapult tests, explaining how this represents a significant advancement in Chinese naval aviation capability. He describes the electromagnetic launch system technology, the J-35 stealth fighter operations, and what this means for potential Taiwan Strait scenarios. Max offers his perspective on how these Chinese developments compare to US naval capabilities and discusses hypothetical conflict implications.

Key takeaways

• Max explains that China’s Fujian carrier uses electromagnetic catapults (EMALS) instead of ski-jump ramps, allowing it to launch heavier aircraft more efficiently and potentially increase sortie rates to around 50 planes per hour
• According to Max, the J-35 stealth fighter represents China’s attempt to compete with the F-35, though he notes the stealth claims are unverified and suggests it likely has significant radar visibility from rear angles due to exposed engines
• Max assesses that while China’s naval aviation is advancing and could extend their power projection to roughly 1,000 miles offshore, the US Navy remains decades ahead in experience, sensor fusion, and overall capability
