Real Fighter Pilot Slays Russian Flankers in F-18 Hornet

About this video

Max plays DCS World in an F-18 Hornet, engaging in hypothetical air combat scenarios against Russian Su-30 Flankers and Tu-160 bombers. He provides running commentary on his tactics, energy management, weapon systems (including AIM-120 AMRAAMs and AIM-9X missiles), and the F-18’s capabilities while interspersing stories from his fighter pilot experience. Max recounts a dogfight he had in an F-15E Strike Eagle against an F-18 and mentions a combat tasking where he was assigned to intercept what he believes may have been drones from Iran.

Key takeaways

• Max demonstrates various F-18 systems including visual AMRAAM mode, helmet-mounted display (HMD), and close-range dogfighting tactics in a flight simulator.
• Max emphasizes that energy management (exchanging potential energy from altitude and kinetic energy from speed) is critical in air combat maneuvering.
• Max recounts that he was once tasked to intercept what he believes were probably drones from Iran during his combat deployments, though he notes they could have been F-14s.
• Max describes the F-15E Strike Eagle as his ‘first love’ among aircraft despite being ‘overweight,’ citing its extensive combat capability.
