The El Paso Airspace Meltdown Is Worse Than You Think

About this video

Max analyzes a February 2025 incident where the FAA temporarily shut down El Paso International Airport for approximately eight hours due to what Max describes as cartel drone activity near the U.S.-Mexico border. He examines the U.S. military’s deployment of directed energy weapons systems—particularly the LOCUST laser system—to counter drone threats, explaining how layered defense technologies including high-power microwave systems and airborne platforms create a multi-tiered protection strategy against what Max characterizes as increasing cartel drone incursions.

Key takeaways

• Max recounts that the El Paso airport closure was likely caused by a combination of cartel drone activity and testing of the Army’s LOCUST directed energy weapon system near Fort Bliss
• According to Max, modern counter-drone systems use layered defense including ground-based lasers (20-300 kilowatt class), high-power microwave weapons, and potential airborne platforms working together
• Max emphasizes the ‘directive and descriptive communication’ principle from fighter aviation: take action first to neutralize threats, then explain afterward—which he believes was applied during the El Paso incident
