The Real Top Gun Maverick Explains Working with Jocko Willink! | Clip 2 of 4

About this video

Max shares the second clip from his podcast interview with Dave Berke, a consultant for Top Gun: Maverick who now works with Jocko Willink and Leif Babin at Echelon Front. Dave recounts a humorous story about misreading a text message (autocorrect changed ‘polo’ to ‘gold’) and showing up to his first Echelon Front event in a bright yellow shirt instead of the standard black polo. Max and Dave discuss leadership qualities including humility, credibility, approachability, and authenticity that Dave observed working with Jocko and Leif.

Key takeaways

• Dave recounts how he met Jocko and Leif in 2006 while serving as a forward air controller embedded with SEAL Team 3 in Ramadi during the height of the insurgency
• Dave describes the core values he associates with the Air Force Weapons School and Echelon Front: humility, credibility, approachability, and authenticity
• Max argues that playing ’the long game’ (building sustainable brands through authenticity) rather than ’the short game’ (seeking quick wins and temporary fame) is key to lasting success
