Thunderbird Pilot Guesses Top Gun Maverick Details!

About this video

Max, a former F-15E combat pilot and F-16 Thunderbirds pilot, analyzes the Top Gun Maverick trailers and speculates about the film’s plot. He draws parallels between the original Top Gun and the sequel, suggesting Maverick buzzes a building in an SR-72, gets reassigned to lead a high-stakes mission, and ultimately must rescue Rooster (Goose’s son) after a shootdown. Max predicts the film will culminate in a dogfight between an F-14 and a Russian Su-57, arguing an F-14 could win due to the Su-57’s poor rearward visibility and Russian pilots’ limited flight hours.

Key takeaways

• Max theorizes that Maverick buzzing a building in an SR-72 serves as the catalyst for his reassignment to lead aviators on a high-stakes mission, similar to how buzzing the tower in the original film got him sent to Top Gun
• Max predicts Rooster gets shot down by a surface-to-air missile, prompting Maverick to eject and link up with him, eventually stealing an F-14 from an enemy hangar
• Max argues an F-14 could defeat a Russian Su-57 in a dogfight due to the Su-57’s poor rearward visibility, Russian pilots’ limited flight hours (10-20 per year), and Maverick’s ability to use maneuvers like the cobra to get behind the enemy aircraft
