Army Ranger K9 Police Officer Jon Lindsey Part One | Mike Ritland Podcast Episode 150

About this video

Mike Ritland interviews John Lindsey, a former Army Ranger from 1st Battalion 75th Ranger Regiment who later served as a law enforcement K9 handler in Georgia. Lindsey recounts his unconventional path into the military—joining at 22 after completing junior college and police academy—and shares detailed accounts of combat deployments, including firefights and breaching operations. The conversation covers his Ranger training experiences, competitive shooting, and current work in law enforcement and the Georgia Police Canine Foundation.

Key takeaways

• Lindsey attributes his military enlistment to the personal impact of a friend’s death in Afghanistan and guidance from a law enforcement mentor who introduced him to the Ranger Regiment option
• According to Lindsey, RASP (Ranger Assessment and Selection Program) progressively builds physical demands while teaching technical skills like explosive breaching after week three, though he found basic training’s administrative aspects more frustrating than the physical challenges
• Lindsey credits competitive USPSA and IDPA pistol shooting matches with dramatically improving his marksmanship, stating the shot timer pressure and peer observation create stress that can’t be replicated through traditional training methods
