Colombian Hostage RESCUED After 5 Years | Mike Drop Episode 241

About this video

Former Air Force imagery analyst Mark Gonsalves recounts his experience being taken hostage by Colombian FARC guerrillas during a 2003 counter-narcotics surveillance mission. He describes the violent plane crash that preceded his capture, witnessing the execution-style killing of two crew members, and enduring over five years in captivity in the Colombian jungle before being rescued in a 2008 covert Colombian military operation. Gonsalves discusses how the experience changed his perspective on freedom and life, though he states he would go back in time to avoid the captivity if he could.

Key takeaways

• Gonsalves argues that the captivity experience fundamentally changed his perspective on freedom and simple pleasures, though he states unequivocally that he would choose to avoid the experience if given the chance through time travel
• The guest describes FARC as terrorists who fund themselves through cocaine production, extortion, and holding thousands of hostages for ransom, executing those who cannot pay
