Delta Force Selection: The Mystery Course That Breaks Everyone

About this video

Ritland discusses his experience going through a highly secretive military selection process and Operator Training Course (OTC). He describes the selection as a 32-day mental challenge focused primarily on solo land navigation, where candidates simply disappear without knowing if they quit or were cut. Ritland explains that the training standards are kept secret even from instructors, with only one person knowing the full picture, and recounts how his OTC class graduated just two enlisted operators after roughly a year and a half of training.

Key takeaways

• According to Ritland, the selection process he attended is the military’s best-kept secret, with standards known only to one person in charge and candidates never knowing why others fail or leave
• Ritland describes the 32-day selection as primarily a solo land navigation challenge that he characterizes as more of a mental game against yourself than a physical test
• Ritland recounts that the Operator Training Course restarts everyone from basic rifle marksmanship regardless of background, assuming prior training was wrong, and progresses into specialized operations he describes as movie-level cool
