Delta Force vs ISA (OTC): The Secret Units Explained

About this video

Ritland’s guest, a former member of an elite Army intelligence unit, describes the extensive selection and training pipeline. He recounts the nearly year-long Operator Training Course (OTC) which emphasizes tradecraft—clandestine techniques like surveillance detection, disguise, and source handling—followed by real-world alias exercises conducted domestically. The guest explains how operators develop their own cover identities and eventually deploy to support special operations units.

Key takeaways

• According to the guest, OTC lasts approximately 11 months, with the first half focused on tradecraft (surveillance detection, dead drops, cover protection) and the second half on applying intelligence skills in real-world exercises under alias within the U.S.
• The guest explains that operators create their own cover identities rather than memorizing assigned backstories, keeping covers shallow and plausible to maintain believability during long missions.
• The guest emphasizes that protecting one’s cover is paramount—compromising it can endanger not only the operator but also years of intelligence work and other lives, requiring careful surveillance detection without revealing awareness of being followed.
