EXPOSING The Quiet Split Between UK And US Forces | Ant Middleton | Mike Drop 246

About this video

Mike Ritland interviews Ant Middleton, former UK Special Boat Service commander and bestselling author. Middleton discusses the shifting political climate in the UK and its impact on military culture, the backlash he’s faced for becoming a public figure after service, and his journey from childhood in Portsmouth and France to elite special operations. The conversation covers UK-US military relations, declining recruitment and force strength, and the erosion of traditional warrior ethos.

Key takeaways

• Middleton describes significant political infiltration into UK special forces and a dramatic 40% reduction in military strength over two decades, creating tension between traditional military culture and modern political correctness
• Unlike the U.S., UK service members face public hostility and are sometimes discouraged from wearing uniforms in public, with Middleton himself receiving criticism accusing him of killing innocents
• Middleton caught substantial criticism for his public profile after leaving service in 2015, though he notes supportive feedback came from those he actually served with, while detractors were typically those he never worked alongside
