Hit By An IED In Iraq With Daniel Gade | Mike Drop - Episode 87

About this video

Daniel Gade, a retired Army Lieutenant Colonel and author, recounts his military service and perspective on American politics. Gade describes his two combat deployments to Iraq in 2004, where he was wounded twice—the second time catastrophically by an IED that cost him his leg and left him with severe injuries requiring emergency blood transfusions from fellow service members. He discusses his 2020 Virginia Senate run, his views on what’s wrong with Washington D.C., and his belief that America needs more servant-leaders who prioritize their oath to the Constitution over personal gain.

Key takeaways

• Gade argues that Washington’s core problem is electing wealthy people seeking their next win rather than true servants committed to the Constitution
• Gade recounts being wounded twice in Iraq in 2004, with the second IED blast resulting in the loss of his leg and requiring 20 units of blood donated on-site by Marines and sailors
• Gade credits his father’s advice before deployment—to never become bitter no matter what happens—with helping him maintain a positive outlook after his catastrophic injuries
• Gade suggests that service academies like West Point represent the best of America and can restore faith in the country’s potential
