Knife-Forging SEAL Nomad Shane Hiatt Part One | Mike Ritland Podcast Episode 163

About this video

Ritland interviews Shane Wyatt, a former Navy SEAL with 16.5 years of service across SEAL Team 8 and SEAL Team 3. Wyatt recounts his unconventional lifestyle living out of his truck since 2008, his difficult childhood in rural New Mexico marked by an abusive stepfather, and how a bow-hunting mentor subtly influenced his decision to join the military and pursue the SEAL Teams. The conversation covers Wyatt’s daily routines, philosophy on living in the moment, and formative experiences.

Key takeaways

• Wyatt attributes his decision to live nomadically in his truck to a desire to see more of the United States after realizing he’d visited more foreign countries than U.S. states during his military career
• Wyatt recounts surviving severe physical abuse from his stepfather during childhood, with his mother and older brother eventually confronting the stepfather to protect him and his half-sister
• A bow-hunting mentor used reverse psychology to steer teenage Wyatt toward the Navy SEALs by telling him the teams were ’too hard’ for him, sparking his interest in the challenge
