MARSOC SERE Instructor Christian Holloway - Part One | Mike Ritland Podcast Episode 142

About this video

Ritland interviews Christian Holloway, a Marine Corps veteran who served as an infantryman and later as a MARSOC Raider. Holloway recounts his deployment during the 2003 Iraq invasion, describing the early combat experiences of his unit (3rd Battalion, 4th Marines) as they crossed into Iraq. He shares his transition from the military to becoming a Texas DPS trooper and discusses his interest in personal finance. The conversation also explores philosophy about mortality, childhood memories, and how he chose the Marine Corps over his father’s Air Force background.

Key takeaways

• Holloway’s unit encountered combat immediately upon crossing into Iraq in 2003, receiving Iraqi artillery fire at known entry points before air support eliminated the threat
• The guest attributes his Special Operations success to mental toughness and perseverance (influenced by David Goggins’ book), noting he gave himself a ’no fail’ mentality during the pipeline
• Holloway describes close-range armor engagements during the Iraq invasion, including an ambush by Iraqi APCs that his unit quickly neutralized with tank support
