Mike Drop Special Edition Author Narrated of Unf*ck America | Mike Ritland Podcast Episode 96

About this video

Mike Ritland reads chapter one of his book ‘Unfuck America,’ titled ‘America, the Rich, Spoiled Brat.’ Ritland argues that America has coasted on past accomplishments since World War II and presents extensive CDC and other government statistics on rising suicide rates, drug overdoses, obesity, mental health issues, addiction, and declining education rankings. He contends that political polarization and inability to agree on solutions to these problems poses an existential threat to the nation, comparing the division to conditions that enabled historical atrocities.

Key takeaways

• Ritland presents data showing suicide rates increased over 30% in half of U.S. states since 1999, with 132 suicides occurring per day on average and drug overdose deaths quadrupling from 1999 to 2018
• Ritland argues that obesity, opioid addiction, and alcohol abuse cost the U.S. economy over a trillion dollars annually and are the primary health issues facing the country
• Ritland claims that extreme political polarization has caused Americans to view fellow citizens with different opinions as enemies, which he warns could lead to dangerous outcomes if not addressed
