Navy SEAL Immigrant Drago Dzieran Part One | Mike Ritland Podcast Episode 161

About this video

Mike Ritland interviews Zbigniew ‘Drago’ Dzieran, a former US Navy SEAL originally from communist Poland. Dzieran recounts his childhood under socialist oppression, his year and a half as a political prisoner, his eventual immigration to America, and his 20-year SEAL career including over 100 direct action missions in Iraq. The conversation explores the stark contrasts between life under communism and American freedom, Dzieran’s concerns about rising socialist rhetoric in the U.S., and his journey from poverty and political persecution to becoming a decorated Naval Special Warfare operator.

Key takeaways

• Dzieran attributes the dangers of socialism and communism to their removal of moral anchors rooted in faith, enabling atrocities when societies subscribe to relative morality dictated by ideology rather than immutable principles.
• Growing up in 1980s communist Poland, Dzieran experienced severe scarcity, censorship, and fear of secret police—his father was a high-ranking communist official while his Christian mother faced persecution, creating a divided household.
• Dzieran expresses concern that certain trends in modern America—including censorship and what he views as political imprisonment—echo warning signs from his experience in socialist Poland, though he believes America’s foundation in personal freedom will ultimately resist full socialism.
