Recon Marine Fox Special Forces Host Rudy Reyes Part One | Mike Ritland Podcast Episode 156

About this video

Mike Ritland interviews Rudy Reyes, a former Marine Recon operator, State Department contractor, founder of Force Blue, and host of SAS: Who Dares Wins. Reyes recounts his difficult childhood in poverty and an orphanage, his path to the Marine Corps through martial arts, and his struggles with addiction and suicidal depression after military service. He describes rebuilding his life through his nonprofit work, faith, and family, and discusses his media career including Generation Kill and reality shows.

Key takeaways

• Reyes attributes his survival of severe post-service addiction and suicidal crisis to faith, reaching out for help (calling his brother to remove firearms), and reconnecting with purpose through founding Force Blue and working with other veterans
• Reyes credits the Omaha Home For Boys and wrestling coach Bobby Orr with teaching him discipline, work ethic, and resilience during his orphaned childhood, which he describes as preparation for both military life and later hardships
• According to Reyes, combat shifted his perspective to recognize the privilege of being American and serving in the U.S. military, which he calls the greatest lesson from his deployments
