Ret. Blackwater Operator Author Morgan Lerette

About this video

Mike Ritland interviews Morgan Lofrett, former Air Force Security Forces, Blackwater contractor, and Army Intel veteran. Lofrett recounts his difficult upbringing in Arizona with an absent father, joining the Air National Guard in 1999, deploying after 9/11 to Oman, Jordan, Kuwait, and Iraq during the 2003 invasion, and eventually connecting with Blackwater. The conversation covers his tough childhood shaped by his grandfather’s discipline, early military experiences protecting airbases during the Iraq war, and the mundane reality of combat deployment contrasted with expectations.

Key takeaways

• Lofrett attributes his work ethic to living with his grandfather in high school, who taught him construction skills and straightened out his grades after a difficult childhood with an absent father.
• According to Lofrett, his Air National Guard deployment transformed rapidly after 9/11, turning what was supposed to be a two-week activation into two years of active duty including deployments to Oman, Jordan, Kuwait, and Iraq during the 2003 invasion.
• Lofrett describes much of his Iraq deployment experience as monotonous security work protecting runways and aircraft, contrasting the excitement of training with the boring reality of war.
