Tales from Texas Highway Patrol | Mike Drop - Episode 143 Clip

About this video

A former Texas Highway Patrol trooper recounts experiences from his time patrolling the border and Austin areas. He describes discovering that a semi-truck he had passed became the same truck where 20 migrants died from heat in San Antonio, as well as a successful interdiction where he and fellow troopers found nine Guatemalans wedged into a professionally-packed trailer after an X-ray scan. The guest also discusses multi-million dollar drug seizures, dangerous vehicle pursuits involving teenagers working for cartels, and the combatives training DPS officers receive.

Key takeaways

• The guest recalls passing a legally parked truck that later made headlines after 20 migrants died inside from heat, recognizing both the vehicle and driver from photos released afterward.
• The guest describes interdicting a semi-trailer where nine Guatemalans were discovered wedged in tight confinement among professionally palletized cargo, detected only through X-ray scanning.
• The guest explains that cartels influence young teenagers to commit crimes like high-speed chases and smuggling, noting most perpetrators he encountered were either very young or in their 40s-50s, with a gap in the 22-32 age range due to incarceration.
