The INSANE Moment Saddam Spit Right on Delta Force Legend Tom Satterly

About this video

Ritland recounts his experiences during the capture of Saddam Hussein in Iraq, describing a routine target hit in Baghdad that unexpectedly led to capturing a key enabler, which ultimately resulted in locating Saddam. He contrasts the relatively unanticipated nature of that mission with a chaotic operation in southern Iraq that went badly wrong, involving a downed helicopter, missing team members, and a prolonged firefight. Ritland reflects on how his Somalia experiences remain more emotionally intense than Iraq deployments, and briefly discusses his early days working selection and his long-term struggle with weight gain and loss.

Key takeaways

• Ritland describes his involvement in the Saddam Hussein capture mission, which he characterizes as unexpectedly boring after a routine hit led to finding a key enabler who revealed Saddam’s location
• He recounts a disastrous mission in southern Iraq involving a downed helicopter, casualties, missing personnel, and a six-hour ordeal under fire that required extensive coordination to resolve
• Despite extensive Iraq combat experience, Ritland states that his time in Somalia remains the most emotionally impactful period of his military career and still affects him deeply when he recalls it
