3 Cisco CLI (Command-line) Hacks (CCNA) + CBT Nuggets WINNER ANNOUNCEMENT!!

About this video

NetworkChuck demonstrates three Cisco CLI hacks for network engineers who live in the command line. First, pipe filters with include and exclude: for example show run with include to find clock or other configuration lines, show processes CPU with exclude 0.00 to see only processes actually using CPU, and show mac address-table with exclude to remove phone entries when hunting for another host. Second, the section filter: show run with section to pull just the routing configuration, or narrowed further to just the OSPF configuration commands that were entered, rather than scrolling the full running config. Third, the do command, which lets you run show commands such as do show ip interface brief from inside interface or routing configuration mode without leaving that context. The video also announces CBT Nuggets giveaway winner James C from England, who is in his last year at university, has completed ICND1 for his CCENT, and plans to use the training to complete ICND2 and his CCNA. Chuck notes a seven-day free CBT Nuggets trial, suggests asking an employer to pay for training, and points to lower-cost Udemy options.

Key takeaways

Use include to keep only matching lines in show output and exclude to drop noise, such as 0.00 CPU processes or phone entries in the MAC table
Use show run with the section filter to view only a configuration section, for example routing or just OSPF
Use the do command to run show commands from within configuration mode without exiting that mode
Giveaway winner James C from England had completed ICND1/CCENT and planned to use CBT Nuggets to finish ICND2 and the CCNA
If paid training is out of reach, he suggests a free trial, asking your employer to pay, or cheaper Udemy courses
