i failed my exam
About this video
Chuck candidly reports failing his CCNP ENCOR exam after livestreaming 14 days of study on Twitch. He says his first impulse was to quit and move to OSCP, but audience polls across Twitter, Facebook, Twitch, and YouTube told him to finish what he started, so he rescheduled the exam for January 15 and invites viewers to schedule their own exams for the same date and study along live each morning from January 1. His post-mortem names two self-attributed causes: first, he gave himself only about two weeks, which he says is far too little for an exam as large as ENCOR, so he is adding two more weeks; second, he actively avoided topics he dislikes — Cisco wireless in particular — and says the exam hit wireless hard. His general advice for failing any exam is two steps: reschedule as soon as you are financially able, and strategize/commit to a battle plan that directly fixes the gaps. The remainder is a holiday giveaway segment for Boson NetSim and Boson ExSim practice products (with a discount code mentioned), which he says he uses for Cisco cert prep.
Key takeaways
- After failing, reschedule as soon as financially able rather than quitting or switching certs — Chuck rescheduled ENCOR for January 15 on audience advice
- Diagnose honestly: Chuck attributes his fail to too short a timeline (about two weeks for ENCOR) and to avoiding disliked topics
- Do not skip weak areas: he avoided Cisco wireless and says the exam tested it heavily
- Turn the retry into a committed, public study plan — daily live study sessions starting January 1 in his case
- Use realistic practice tools to gauge readiness; Chuck cites Boson NetSim labs and ExSim practice exams as his prep standard
