Python......when should you learn it?

About this video

NetworkChuck answers when IT learners should start learning Python: right now, alongside whatever certification or role they are already pursuing, not after it. He argues Python is relevant for network engineers, hackers, sysadmins, cloud engineers and others, and that current tracks such as CCNA already include automation and scripting elements, so delaying only postpones something learners will have to learn anyway. His prescription is deliberately small: 10 to 15 minutes of Python study every day to build a daily habit without derailing the main certification study. He frames Python as a continuing journey rather than something finished once, says consistent daily minutes compound noticeably over a month, and notes a short switch to Python can also act as a refreshing break from the main subject. He gives one exception: if a learner’s plate is already completely full and adding anything would cause stress, they should ignore the advice and focus on what they are doing. He describes using Codecademy himself, notes it has a free basic plan with limitations and a paid Pro plan plus student pricing as presented in the video, and invites viewers to keep daily streaks and hold each other accountable, mentioning a possible Discord channel for that purpose.

Key takeaways

• Start learning Python now, in parallel with CCNA, PenTest+, Linux+ or other main study — do not wait until after the certification
• Keep the daily dose to 10-15 minutes so Python builds as a habit without derailing the primary exam preparation
• Python is presented as relevant across network engineering, hacking, sysadmin and cloud roles, including network automation in CCNA
• Consistency matters more than session length: small daily practice compounds over a month and maintains a streak
• If already overloaded to the point of stress, skip adding Python for now — the advice is explicitly not for a full plate
