How To Use Descript For Subtitles & Captions 2023 (Descript Tutorial Studio Sound)

About this video

The creator gives a step-by-step Descript tutorial for adding subtitles/captions and Studio Sound to a short video. He drags and drops nine clips into Descript, names the speaker, and lets it transcribe automatically, then edits by highlighting transcript text and deleting words, tightening gaps, and using undo. He trims a clip from 1 minute 11 seconds to about 58.9 seconds so it fits under one minute for Instagram Reels, Facebook Reels, TikTok, Pinterest and YouTube Shorts. He applies Audio Repair / Studio Sound clip by clip to remove background noise from phone-recorded audio, then highlights the whole transcript and uses Ctrl+Shift+K to insert captions. He customizes font (recommending free fonts from dafont.com), size around 120, white fill, a border around 30, and ‘active words’ highlighting in yellow so the spoken word is highlighted on screen. He also replaces words with emojis copied from emojipedia.org, then exports, noting he uses the paid version but a free version exists.

Key takeaways

• Drag clips into Descript and edit video by highlighting and deleting transcript text, including tightening pauses
• Apply Studio Sound / Audio Repair to each clip to clean up phone-recorded audio and remove background noise
• Insert captions by highlighting the full transcript and pressing Ctrl+Shift+K, then style font, size and border
• Use ‘active words’ highlighting so the currently spoken word stands out in a contrasting color like yellow
• Swap selected words for emojis from emojipedia.org and get fonts from dafont.com to boost engagement
