About this video

RJ Martinez gives a step-by-step look at Midjourney v5, released March 15, 2023 according to the blog post he shows. He demonstrates switching the Midjourney bot in Discord direct messages via /settings from v4 to MJ version 5, noting prompts will then show v5, and explains users can switch back to older versions if they prefer that style. Using the same ‘vibrant California poppies’ prompt, he generates and upscales images in v5 and v4 for comparison, judging v5 as more realistic and detailed while acknowledging taste varies. He then shares a tip: the AIPRM for ChatGPT Chrome extension, which he says has over 600,000 users, includes a Midjourney Prompt Generator template that produced four prompts in about 10 seconds from a single keyword like ‘golden poppies’ or ‘panda,’ versus what he says could take 15 minutes manually. He frames prompt skill as learning to talk to the AI image creator to get usable business images.

Key takeaways

Users can switch back to v4, v3, v2, or v1 if they prefer an older model’s look
In his side-by-side test with the same California poppies prompt, he judges v5 images as more realistic and detailed than v4
He recommends the AIPRM for ChatGPT Chrome extension’s Midjourney Prompt Generator to quickly generate multiple prompts from one keyword
He stresses that results depend on learning to prompt the tool effectively, not just generating random images
