Photoshop Killer? I Tried Gemini 2.5’s “Nano Banana” for T-Shirt Design

About this video

The creator tests Google’s Gemini 2.5 Flash Image model, nicknamed Nano Banana, in Google AI Studio as a possible Photoshop alternative for print-on-demand work. Starting from a prompt for a cute Halloween ghost nurse design, he shows how conversational follow-up instructions can place the artwork on a t-shirt, remove the background, delete pumpkins, recolor text to red, turn the ghost orange, and recolor pumpkins green — noting the model sometimes misses elements blended into the image and may need repeated prompts. He also shows earlier experiments adding boxes and changing his hair color, style, and accessories in a thumbnail photo, observing that repeated edits gradually alter facial details. He then applies designs to mockups for a t-shirt, tank top, and coffee mug, suggests varying product colors, and compares output from Nano Banana with ChatGPT and Ideogram versions of similar designs, leaving viewers to judge quality. He notes downloads come as JPEGs and that sellers would still upscale, vectorize, or remove backgrounds in tools such as Kittl, Photopea, or Photoshop.

Key takeaways

• Treat Nano Banana editing as a conversation: simple follow-up prompts can add products, remove objects, and change colors without starting over
• Expect imperfect edits — blended or overlapping elements may be missed, so repeat or refine the instruction and check details closely
• Use the tool to generate mockups quickly for shirts, tank tops, and mugs to preview a design before listing it
• Repeated editing of a person’s photo can gradually shift facial features, so limit edit chains for thumbnails
• Plan a finishing step outside the model for upscaling, vectorizing, and clean transparent backgrounds before selling a design
