How MUCH Money Do You Need to Start Amazon KDP in 2026?

About this video

Sean argues you can start Amazon KDP at any budget, including zero, by matching book type to budget — noting the transcript itself frames the question for 2023 despite the video title’s 2026 framing. With $0, make low-content books (guided journals, log books, planners) free in Canva, modifying templates rather than copying them; he cites a ‘questions about me’ / guided-journal brand allegedly making $238,000/month revenue, with its bestseller making $1,409-$3,200/day in royalties per BookBeam. With roughly $50-$300, make medium-content puzzle, activity and coloring books: Book Bolt costs $19.99/month to generate word searches and other puzzles, or outsource cover plus interior on Fiverr from $35; he cites a word-search brand making $18,000/month from 17 books. With $600-$1,000+, make high-content nonfiction/fiction, which faces less competition, can be priced at $14.95-$20, and can sell as ebook, paperback and audiobook; a ghostwritten book via The Urban Writers or Upwork costs $600-$1,200, plus a $50-$200 cover and cheap formatting. Time can substitute for money by doing the work yourself.

Key takeaways

• Budget tiers: $0 = low-content, $50-$300 = medium-content, $600-$1,000+ = high-content books

• Medium-content puzzle books can be generated with Book Bolt at $19.99/month or outsourced on Fiverr from $35
• High-content books cost mainly writing: $600-$1,200 for a ghostwriter, $50-$200 for a cover, with higher prices and more formats than low/medium content
• Trade time for money: do tasks yourself to cut costs, or outsource most steps if you have budget but little time
