How to Copyright Your Book | Fastest and Easiest Way (Step-By-Step)

About this video

A practical video on getting a copyright certificate ready before KDP or ACX asks for one. He explains that copyright is automatic once a work is finished, but KDP’s rights-verification emails explicitly do not accept a personal statement, and a book can be blocked if you cannot produce documentation. Option one is copyright.gov: he states $65 per book and roughly one to three months processing (citing an average near 1.9 months), which is too slow if Amazon gives you days to respond and expensive across a catalog. His recommended option is Protect My Work, an independent witness service: he states about £41.60 per year excluding VAT, including five registration credits, with extra credits around £1 each, and instant certificates. He demos the workflow: put your real name in personal details, pen names in the ‘author copyright holder’ field (multiple pen names can be listed), upload up to five files per work (he uploads ebook, paperback and all cover files), and receive a certificate with a reference number and password that you pass to whoever is verifying. He says ACX accepted his Protect My Work certificate for an audiobook listing. This is largely a recommendation for one paid service rather than legal advice.

Key takeaways

• Automatic copyright is not enough for KDP: Amazon rejects personal statements as proof of rights
• Keep a certificate ready before a rights email arrives, not after
• US Copyright Office registration is per-book and slow; third-party witness certificates are instant
• Register pen names under the author/copyright-holder field, not as your legal first/last name
• Upload all major files (ebook, paperback, covers) under one registration to maximize the proof
