How to Create a Coloring Book WITHOUT AI for Amazon KDP (Step-By-Step)

About this video

Sean Dollwet shows how to create a cozy, bold-and-easy coloring book without AI, arguing AI images often have errors like extra fingers or too much grayscale that draw negative reviews. He points to creator-cited BookBeam royalty estimates for simple cozy brands — e.g., $617/day, $268/day and $330/day for individual titles, and $1,000-$1,700/day for one Coco title he discusses — as examples of demand, with a disclaimer he cannot guarantee results. The method is hiring Fiverr illustrators (he names GiggyC and Sue Hendra among others) who also make the cover as a coloured interior page, costing, by his estimate, about $400-$600 for 40 pages. He then formats in Canva: match competitor trim (example 8.5 x 8.5 in), ~88 pages (40 coloring + 40 blank backs to prevent bleed-through), 0.375 in margins, place designs on odd pages only, export PDF Print (CMYK if Pro), and use KDP’s cover calculator/template if the designer did not supply a ready PDF cover.

Key takeaways

• Avoid AI for coloring interiors if it produces grayscale or anatomy errors; hire illustrators for clean bold-and-easy lines
• Creator cites BookBeam estimates of hundreds to over $1,000/day for top cozy titles, but explicitly does not guarantee results
• Hire on Fiverr and ask the same illustrator for the cover; creator estimates ~$400-$600 for a 40-page book
• Format single-sided: one coloring page plus one blank page, typically ~88 pages total, at a trending trim like 8.5 x 8.5 in
• In Canva set 0.375 in margins, keep art inside margins on odd pages, and export PDF Print (CMYK on Pro if available)
