How to Create a KDP Planner for FREE with Canva for Amazon KDP

About this video

This is a step-by-step Canva tutorial for creating a monthly planner to sell on Amazon KDP. Dollwet shows examples he says earn from BookBeam data, then walks through sizing: for an 8.5 x 11 inch book in the 24-150 page range with bleed, he uses 8.625 x 11.25 inches and 0.375 inch margins on all sides. In Canva he sets custom dimensions in inches, shows rulers with Shift+R, marks margins, and builds the interior from free planner templates, converting pages to black-and-white, removing background textures, and changing fonts and layouts to make the result original. He plans at least four pages per month plus yearly calendar and goals pages, about 100 pages for a two-year planner, then exports as PDF Print. For the cover he uses the KDP cover calculator/template, designs over it in Canva, and exports PDF Print. He closes by noting Fiverr designers as an alternative to DIY.

Key takeaways

• Start with correct KDP bleed and margin specs before designing — the tutorial uses 0.375 inch margins and 8.625 x 11.25 inches for an 8.5 x 11 inch bleed book
• In Canva, set custom size in inches, enable rulers, and mark margins before placing content to avoid gutter problems
• Use Canva templates for inspiration only: convert to black-and-white, delete textures, and change fonts/layouts to avoid duplicate content
• Structure a two-year monthly planner at roughly 100 pages, with monthly spreads plus yearly calendar, goals, and notes pages
• Size the cover with the KDP cover calculator template, keep key elements inside safe lines, and export both interior and cover as PDF Print
